8th Graders,
Dmitri himself would be proud of these links.
Both website give you basic information about the various elements. Web elements will also re-organize the chart based on other conditions. We will be going over the periodic table extremely quickly because you studied it last year.

On Monday, all eighth graders will be posing for a casual group picture. The eighth grade students are allowed to wear blue jeans (no holes) with a uniform top and closed toe shoes. We ask that they bring their white shirts hanging to prevent wrinkles. They will change into their shirts/blouses before the picture.
St. Luke’s 8th grade is conducting a recycling fundraiser. There’s nothing to buy. We are simply asking you to donate your used cellular phones,
inkjet cartridges, laptop / notebook computers (750 Mhz Or Less Will NOT Be Accepted), iPods (and other MP3 players),
digital cameras and digital video cameras, handheld game systems (PSP, Gameboys, etc.)
· Items may be working or broken
· Please include batteries, chargers, & cords
· Please DO NOT INCLUDE cases, headphones etc.
· Computer hard drives may be removed before donating or left in place. All hard drives left in the computers will be removed
· and destroyed upon arrival at EcoPhones, the recycling company.
· Toner cartridges are not accepted
Your used items will be recycled in accordance with EPA regulations or refurbished and sold.
Please place your recyclable electronics in the bins located in the elementary and middle school offices by April 17, 2009.
We greatly appreciate your support!

How timely is this? The Witte is now running an exhibit on the human genome.
Compare genomes. You share this percentage of your genes with other organisms…

8th Graders,
The next topic in class is short and sweet. We will be discussing it this week in class and there will be a quiz on Friday related to it. Most of you should already have a good understanding of Magnets and Magnetism and we have already discussed how they can be used to generate electricity.
Here are the topics you must know for the quiz:
Relate the terms Magnetic Force, Magnetic Field, and Magnetic Poles.
How does a compass work?
How do you make an electromagnet?
Name and explain one application of electromagnet.
What is a transformer? How are they used?
-Mr. K
There are sample problems on the powerpoint. We will work through them in class today as practice, but so many people are coming down sick that I decided to post them.
-Mr. K
Parents,
Report cards are being sent home with students today. Please ask to see them!
-Mr. K
