8th grade exam outline

Posted in 8th Grade at 2:57 pm by slesscience

8th Graders,

Here is your exam outline. We will be reviewing in class Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday. If you have any questions over the weekend, post them here and I will do my best to answer them. Most likely, Catherine will answer the question before I can check the website!

    Mr. K

I was reading over the review for the final and I am a little confused bec you told us to study energy but that was already on our mid-term. I am really just confused on wat we need to know for the Elecricty part. Post the answer please!

    Good Question Brynn,

What I meant by energy was energy usage by an appliance. On the Electricity Test, you had to use the chart from the book to calculate the energy consumption and cost of running various household appliances.

Start by studying the key terms for the Electricity section then practice your calculations using Ohms Law (V=IR) and Energy,Power,Cost of appliances. Remember that the questions will be multiple choice so I can’t get too complicated.

What does “writing compounds” on the study guide mean? Is that the drawings with the dots? does anyone know what im talking about

what would the definition of “static discharge” be? I can’t find it in the index or the glossary. :(

    please answer ASAP

    also, what does “inert” mean?

Yes Catherine, that’s what it is. It was on the test where he told us a compound like H2O and we draw the symbols with dots and stuff.

    Liz,

I jsut answered your questions on another thread. Look there.

    Catherine and Lauren,

You are right. It is drawing compounds that obey the rule of eight.

    hey yalllll

last time member how everybody asked questions and everybody answered? Let’s do that again cause somehow it worked as a way to study

    Hey lizard-

inert means stable or unreactive and examples would be noble gasses… just in case you were to lazy to look at the other “thread??”

i like that idea elisabeth but no ones here… by the way whats a double bond again?

  12.    slesscience said,

    May 28, 2009 at 7:07 pm

Double Bonds occur in covalent bonds. They occur when two elements share two or more pairs of electrons. CO2 has double bonds.

this may seem stupid, but i dont know what you mean by “when two elements share two or more pairs of electrons”. In this example, would the two elements of oxygen be bonding on one carbon? Or do you just mean that the elements in the compound are bonded by more than one electron?

  14.    Elisabeth said,

    May 28, 2009 at 7:38 pm

    haha hey catherineeee

we’re the coolest because we’re posting messages!! haha but i think it’s just a bond with two sets of electrons but i’m gonna ask mr. k tomorrow. And what does balancing an ionic compound mean? is it just like balancing equations?

  15.    Elisabeth said,

    May 28, 2009 at 7:41 pm

    hAHA jk catherineee
i didnt see what mr. k said
but say you have O2… since oxygen has 6 valences, you can just get to eight by having them kinda share their electrons. Picture it or draw it out or something. On one of the test we hacve to draw the electron dot diagram for 02 and it was a double bond.

sorry if that made no sense at all!!

  16.    catherine said,

    May 28, 2009 at 7:49 pm

no i get what you mean… and i think that is what he means by balancing ionic equations too, unless that is just like balancing a regular equation

i have to go eat dinner, but im making this practice test, and after i eat i will finish it, so you can take it if you want :) bye!

Catherine can i also have a copy of the practice test also. Sorry for the inconvenience. Where does it say balancing Ionic compounds?

  18.    Lauren Shaffer said,

    May 28, 2009 at 8:42 pm

Does anyone know if we will have to draw diagrams or anything?

  19.    Lauren Shaffer said,

    Mr. K,
For the mixed groups like Boron group or Nitrogen group, do we have to know specific properties?

  20.    Elisabeth said,

    May 28, 2009 at 8:55 pm

    Hey Larrrrrnnnnnnnnn!!!

  21.    catherine said,

    May 28, 2009 at 8:56 pm

hey yeah you and eliasbeth can have one of my practice tests. i havent finished it but when i do i will email it to you.

as far as diagrams/drawings probably like: draw a generator, draw series/parallel circuit, and then bohr model & electron dot diagram. those are the only drawings i can think of

i really doubt we have to know prop. for mixed groups but ask anyway.

oh hey i emailed you guys the test
no i didnt really study for english, i might go over the socratic ?s but thats all im probably going to do. what about you guys?
