Dear Parents,
We will begin scheduling parent/teacher conferences today, Feb. 23rd with the homeroom teachers. Chris Jones Middle School is excited to introduce student-led conferences on March 4th. Research has shown that student-led conferences have a greater impact on student achievement than traditional parent-teacher conferences. We also feel that planning a conference helps students better understand what is needed to be successful students and allows them the opportunity to be self-reflective learners. We are piloting our student-led conferences with our graduating class because of the extreme maturity they have shown while attending St. Luke’s Episcopal School.
Students are currently preparing for this meeting by reflecting on their own strengths and weaknesses and comparing their own reflections with teacher feedback for each class. Parents will be given written feedback from the other content teachers (Math, Science, History, English, Foreign Language) at the time of the conference. If you would like to meet with all teachers on a different day, please let Mrs. Margay know. We try to keep our conferences to fifteen minutes and ask that everyone is on time so that others don’t have to wait. Please call Margay @ 826-0664 to set up an appointment or send her an e-mail (mstillings@sles-sa.org). The following times are available. Elective teachers and Foreign Language teachers, Mr. Flexsenhar and Ms. Gough, are also available for appointments on Wed. March 4th.
We look forward to meeting with you.

Both website give you basic information about the various elements. Web elements will also re-organize the chart based on other conditions. We will be going over the periodic table extremely quickly because you studied it last year.

7th Graders,

This week we will be conducting a lab called “Getting The Point: Skin Sensory Comparisions”. It is very similar to tests that doctors and nurses run to test for neurological disorders. While conducting the lab, please think about the sensory map of humans and the image above. It shows how one cross section of the cerebrum relates to your sense of touch. We will be building our touch receptor testers on monday.

Reminder of Upcoming Due Dates:
Thursday: Assessment Sections 2 & 3; Skin Sensory Lab
Friday: Powerpoint & Model of Organ

On Monday, all eighth graders will be posing for a casual group picture. The eighth grade students are allowed to wear blue jeans (no holes) with a uniform top and closed toe shoes. We ask that they bring their white shirts hanging to prevent wrinkles. They will change into their shirts/blouses before the picture.

How timely is this? The Witte is now running an exhibit on the human genome.
Compare genomes. You share this percentage of your genes with other organisms…
- human to yeast about 30%
- human to worm about 40%
- human to banana about 50%
- human to fruit fly about 60%
- human to mouse about 90%
- human to chimp about 98.4%
- human to human about 99.9% (except for twins, whose genes are 100% identical)
