How Generators Work

Posted in 8th Grade at 9:59 am by slesscience

8th Graders,

Visit the PhET Simulator that explains how a generator works. Be sure to see how the number of spools of wire and speed of flowing water affects the brightness of the lightbulb.

Next use the PhET Simulator that explains Ohm’s Law.

I learned that the more coils there are the brighter the light bulb.

What we noticed about the examples that you got from another website and put on your own and blah blah blah… That the more current supplied that higher the voltage is.

-The simulator showing how a generator works proved that the more water being pumped, results in more light being produced by the lightbulb.
-The simulator with Ohm’s law proved tat the higher the resistance, the lesser the current.

i learned that when you increase the voltage you also increase the current

    Maggie and Brock,

We noticed that when you increase the number of coils the light gets brighter. So if you had a 100 coils, the light bulb is super- bright

I learned that the bigger the resistance the smaller the current and vice versa.

I learned that when you increase the water and increase the coils, they both make the light bigger.

I learned on the other one that the voltage depends on current and resistance

I learned that the more coils they are the light gets brighter, and if the loop area is bigger the light will get even brighter.

I learned that the more coils the more electrons it can hold which means a brighter light

i learned that the faster the water moves the quicker the electrons move. I also learned that the more coils you have the more light the lightbulb produces.

With the generator, I learned the increasing the speed and the number of coils is directly proportional to the amount of energy produced.

I also learned with the Ohm’s Law sim that increasing both voltage and resistance at the same time does absolutely nothing.

On the first one, the more you turn on the sink the faster it spins the wheel, and the brighter the lightbulb gets!!!!

    What i learned is:
the more coils the more the light gets brighter
the more rotations per minute, the brighter the light.

in these generators that we observed today that the more pressure coming out of the water faucet, the brighter that the light will be

We found that the higher the water pressure is and the more the wheel turns the brighter the light is!

    Mr. k,
THIS HAS NOTHING TO DO WITH THE SIMULATORS, BUT ON THE HOMEWORK I DON’T UNDERSTAND NUMBER 1. COULD YOU HELP ME? THANKS

    Lauren,

Come see me before school tomorrow (or at snack). I don’t have the book so I don’t know the question.
